Sean O'Donnell was a guy I knew
at West Chester University, where I met Lora. We shared classes
and he played in an industrial band called Silence for a bit.
When I moved downtown into Philly, we happened to live on the
same block. He was now more interested in abstract electronic
music, and I'd just started to make noise with pedals and a keyboard
to entertain myself. I think the first four-track I had might've
come from Sean when he unloaded a bunch of gear.
We set up in the kitchen of his
studio apartment. I made sounds and snatches of melody, which
he then grabbed on the fly and used to construct and deconstruct
soundfields for me to noodle in.
I was amazed at how easy and fun
it was to record a tape of music. This was something to follow
up on.
Sean went on to do at least one
other recorded project, with David Forlano, and I lost touch with
him. Dumb of me.
SEAN'S KITCHEN was reviewed
by Aural Innovations. It's a fair and balanced review. I'm a little
smug that he refers to a variety of keyboards/synths as the whole
thing was done with Sean's sampler and my Casio, but he nailed
it when referring to "organ smears straight from Miles Davis;"
